Tour Plan

Day 1 Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast in Moshi, drive to Marangu Gate (1,860m). Complete registration and meet your porters and guides. Begin the trek through lush montane rainforest, home to blue monkeys and various bird species. The trail is well-maintained and gradual. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m) in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in the hut. Hiking time: 3-4 hours. Distance: 8km.

Day 2 Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After breakfast, continue ascending through the forest which gradually transitions to moorland. Enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape. The vegetation changes to heather and giant lobelias. Arrive at Horombo Hut (3,720m). This is a good acclimatization camp. Evening briefing and dinner. Hiking time: 5-7 hours. Distance: 11km.

Day 3 Acclimatization Day at Horombo

Spend the day acclimatizing at Horombo Hut. Take a hike towards Mawenzi Hut (4,600m) and the Zebra Rocks for better acclimatization, then return to Horombo. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy helps prevent altitude sickness. Rest, hydrate well, and enjoy the alpine desert scenery. Overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 4 Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Trek across the alpine desert known as "The Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape becomes increasingly barren. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700m), the final camp before summit attempt. Rest and have an early dinner. Prepare your summit gear. Try to sleep early as you'll wake around midnight. Hiking time: 5-6 hours. Distance: 10km.

Day 5 Summit Day - Uhuru Peak

Wake at midnight for tea and biscuits. Begin the challenging ascent to Gilman's Point (5,685m) on the crater rim. Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa! Watch the sunrise from the top of the continent. Descend to Kibo Hut for rest and lunch, then continue down to Horombo Hut. Celebration dinner. Hiking time: 12-14 hours. Distance: 21km.

Day 6 Descent to Marangu Gate

After breakfast, descend through the moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificates! Transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and celebration lunch. Overnight at hotel in Moshi or transfer to airport. Hiking time: 5-6 hours. Distance: 19km. Congratulations on summiting Kilimanjaro!
