About Masai Mara

The Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most famous wildlife sanctuary, forming part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem. Known for its exceptional populations of big cats and the annual Great Migration, the Mara offers an unparalleled safari experience.

Spanning 1,510 square kilometers of rolling grasslands and acacia woodlands, the reserve is home to the iconic Big Five and over 450 bird species. The Mara River, famous for dramatic wildebeest crossings, cuts through the heart of the reserve.

The Masai Mara is named after the Maasai people who have inhabited the region for centuries. Their traditional red shukas dot the landscape, and cultural visits offer insight into their fascinating warrior traditions and pastoral lifestyle.
